Antarctic Ice Sheet Retreat Accelerates Beyond Predictions
New satellite data reveals the West Antarctic ice sheet is losing mass 40% faster than the worst-case models predicted five years ago.

A major study published in Nature Geoscience shows that ice loss from the West Antarctic ice sheet has accelerated dramatically, outpacing even the most pessimistic projections.
The Thwaites Glacier alone is now losing 80 billion tonnes of ice per year, enough to raise global sea levels by 0.3 mm annually from this single source.
"We are watching a slow-motion catastrophe," said glaciologist Dr. Lena Sørensen. "The tipping point we feared might be decades away may already be behind us."
