The Transport Ministry has approved the final route for a 340-kilometre high-speed rail extension connecting three major northern cities to the national network.
Journey times from the capital to Sundsvall will drop from five hours to under three, and the line is projected to shift 1.2 million annual journeys from road and air to rail.
"This is the biggest single infrastructure investment in a generation," said Transport Minister Johan Lind. "It brings the north and south of the country closer together — economically and socially."
