Historic Waterfront District Gets Major Facelift
A 180 million SEK renovation project will transform the city's neglected waterfront into a mixed-use cultural quarter by 2028.

The city's oldest commercial harbour, largely unused since container shipping moved to the outer port in 2014, is set for a dramatic transformation.
The plan includes converting three 19th-century warehouses into galleries, restaurants, and co-working spaces while adding a new public swimming pier and waterside promenade.
"We're not erasing history — we're giving it a second chapter," said urban planner Katja Lund. Local businesses will be given priority for the 40 new retail units.
